Cockos reaper11/28/2023 This unfamiliarity inevitably created distrust, and even a dislike of the program. ” When I started, though a few were familiar with Reaper, none had used it extensively. When I assign Reaper for my Electronic Music Composition course, the first question from students is most always: “Why?! I really love _. Relying on their own computers, which were not able to run the latest industry standard software in every case, and lacking that expensive software itself, many more students, having been introduced to Reaper in their classes here, found it the obvious solution offering everything they needed at a price (initially free, then a reasonable amount) they could afford. The number of students electing to use Reaper increased dramatically during the move to online instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic when many students moved home, losing access to our studios and their array of expensive hardware and software. and it has even become the choice of some students for projects in their senior seminar and Music Composition 1 and 2. However, since arriving in 2016, I have consistently used Reaper in Electronic Music Composition, a course focusing on the creative practice, as well as the history, of experimental work in electronic music (art, jazz, pop, and more). Our Music Technology program here primarily teaches courses that rely heavily on Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton Live, and Max, which are the choice of tools for many professionals in the music industry. Then when I took a post as a professor at the University of Central Missouri, I found several students that did have some familiarity with it, and as I have encouraged its use, this number has increased and the application has entered the culture of our program. None of the students at USD had ever opened Reaper before my class. Then, in 2013, as instructor of digital audio composition at the University of San Diego, I began to use Reaper, initially for my students, because we required a reasonably priced but effective alternative to expensive software packages that would only run on newer computers and found I loved it. A diehard Pro Tools, Logic, and Digital Performer user at the time, it held no appeal and I gave it little further attention once I returned home. I was first introduced to Reaper ( Reaper, a DAW by Cockos, is an acronym for Rapid Environment for Audio Production, Engineering, and Recording) while playing in multiple recording sessions in Berlin during the summer of 2009-in the home studio of Roy Carroll, then at Ausland, Loophole, Salon Bruit, and other venues/locations around the city.

Gimp make background transparent11/27/2023 Overview for Creating Images with TransparencyĪ common task for many people who work with digital media, and webmasters especially, is how to give images transparency. This article explains how to create transparent backgrounds using GIMP, and how to create rounded corners on your images. A Final WordĬongratulations, you’ve just learned how to fill an area with transparency in GIMP using a couple of different methods! While it can be a bit tedious to have to create the alpha channel manually, it’s not very difficult once you remember that it’s the missing piece of the puzzle.GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a cross-platform image editor available for GNU/Linux, macOS, Windows and for other operating systems too. Unfortunately, it can also have the negative result of converting white specular highlights from your object when removing a white background, although you can quickly paint with pure white underneath these areas on another layer to restore them. When using other techniques, shadows often need to be modified or entirely faked, which can destroy the composite visual illusion you’re creating unless it’s done properly.Ĭolor to Alpha won’t always make this process so easy, but when it does, it’s a real timesaver. This method has the unusual benefit of making it relatively simple to transfer an object’s shadow onto a new background since the shadow pixels aren’t technically the same color as the rest of the background that you’re removing. I didn’t even have to click, and it removed the background for me! With your image loaded in GIMP, open the Layer menu, select the Transparency submenu, and click Add Alpha Channel. I’m going to assume that you have already opened the image you want to work on, but if not, start with that. Now that you have a better understanding of the technical side of digital images and how they can create transparency, let’s take another look at the steps to fill an area with transparency in GIMP. Making a Selected Area Transparent in GIMP GIMP is one of the only image editors I’ve ever worked with that forces you to add an alpha channel manually instead of just adding it for you automatically.Īrguably, the extra step that GIMP requires makes everything more precise, which may be of help to people who use GIMP for technical imagery, but for casual users who just want to edit their photos, it feels unnecessarily confusing. Grayscale pixels can be used to indicate partially transparent areas. White pixels in the alpha channel indicate that the corresponding area is fully visible, while black pixels indicate that the corresponding area is fully transparent. What is an Alpha Channel?Īll digital images are made up of separate color channels, which are combined together to create the colors you see on the screen. If you want to peer behind the curtain and learn more about channels and transparency in digital images, or if you just want to explore the steps in a bit more detail, then read on – I’ll even include a bonus method at the end for automatically converting an entire color to transparency across your whole image. That’s all there is to it! All the magic happens in that first step, and that’s where most people get confused because most image editing apps take care of the process for you automatically. Step 2: Select the area you want to make transparent using any of GIMP’s selection tools.Step 1: Open the Layer menu, select the Transparency submenu, and click Add Alpha Channel. If you want to cut right to the chase, here’s how to create a transparent area in GIMP: The Quick Way to Fill an Area with Transparency in GIMP Making a Selected Area Transparent in GIMP.The Quick Way to Fill an Area with Transparency in GIMP.

How to animate in firealpaca11/27/2023 If you are new here, a shortcut is a set of keys used to send a command to the software. We’ve compiled this list and hope you find them useful. Let’s get these shortcuts: The Tool Shortcuts Also, since Firealpaca is available on both Mac and Windows (PC), the commands will go through tweaks because of the nature of the operating system but we will notify you accordingly. These are mostly letters you can punch to invoke tools you want to use in the software. It comes in very handy since the tools are located at the top and side of the screen and the time it would take you to navigate your mouse might be considerably more than just putting in a letter. Note: these shortcuts are keys for the Mac but for Windows PC you simply need to replace ‘Cmd’ with ‘Ctrl’, ‘Delete’ with ‘Backspace’, and ‘Option’ with ‘Alt’ This is for when you’re deep in work and they exist to save your time. The work-frame shortcuts are categorized into two: the single keys and pair. Tab= Initialize (Reset FireAlpaca to Defaults).Alt/Opt = invokes Eyedropper tool without leaving the current tool you are working on.

J river media center tidal bitstreaming11/27/2023 This is just a fancy “DLNA” way of saying that JRiver can be streamed to and controlled by an external media player. Ignoring room correction convolution for a moment, JRiver acts like the “FIFO”, streaming digital music data from my Synology NAS to my DAC, so the question was, “Is there a way to stream TIDAL to JRiver?” Thankfully, the answer was yes! JRiver can be configured as a DLNA Renderer. My breakthrough came this evening when I started thinking about Signalyst’s Network Audio Adapter architecture: I’ve spent more hours than I care to admit trying to get TIDAL lossless streaming and digital room correction working together in the Loft. Other alternatives like feeding JRiver’s WDM or ASIO driver from a local TIDAL streamer proved unreliable at best. Sadly, neither of these things are likely to happen anytime soon. Until now, my only hope has been for a TIDAL player like roon to add a convolution feature or for JRiver to add support for TIDAL streaming. When a friend drops by for a listening session without a thumb drive containing their favorite reference tracks, they are stuck wandering aimlessly through my collection. However, that last issue–no TIDAL streaming–has been a major bummer! When someone suggests new music, I can login to TIDAL and preview it on my laptop but hearing what it really sounds like in the Loft must wait until I buy the CD or download it from HDtracks. I also only have a tiny handful of DSD tracks which, if I cared, could be converted to high-rez PCM files. The first two are no big deal I generally listen to entire albums or playlists, so lag is a non-issue once the music starts.

Mp3tag flac11/27/2023 Most music media players allow you to edit tags to a certain degree, however you’ll need a tag editor app to efficiently manage large libraries or batches of music files. You may wish to sort your tracks by date – however the order of tracks will not be accurate if the date tags on your tracks are wrong or missing! If your music has incorrect or incomplete information, it can make organising your music library very difficult and cumbersome. Viewing music metadata in Windows File Explorer Why would you want to edit your music tags? This includes the Artist tag which denotes which artist produced the track, as well as the track title, track number, album and genre which lets you know what genre of music the track belongs to. This metadata container includes essentially all the information about the music file. In your MP3 and MP4 files, your music tags will be contained in an ID3 metadata container. ‘Tags’ on your music files is a term used to describe the ‘metadata’ of the track. What is a Tag in your MP3, MP4 and other music files? Discussion session synonym11/25/2023 The researchers also studied words that signal an imminent decision, to reveal insight into the decision-making process. The study discovered that compliments used to offset negative comments in a meeting were often viewed as disingenuous. The researchers also found that compliments given at meetings did not always have the intended effect. The word “yeah,” for example, shows acceptance of, or agreement with, a point of view. There are several reasons why these five words hold so much sway at business meetings. What should you say at a business meeting? Using hypothesis tests and predictive modeling, they created a list five words that demonstrated high persuasiveness and often led to a desired response. However, it’s not a new field of academic research.īut Rudin and Kim’s approach was unique because it was one of the first studies to use a data-driven approach to meeting analysis. The study of meetings is complex, as it’s challenging to understand social signals and complex interpersonal dynamics. More than 11 million business meetings take place daily around the world, so learning which words affect the productivity and outcome of those meetings can help companies change the course of their success, Rudin and Kim said. Furthermore, those words often result in proposals being accepted more often than others.įor the research, MIT professor Cynthia Rudin and MIT student Been Kim examined data from several business meetings and pinpointed specific words that appeared to have a big impact.
